Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Beechey achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2011. In the Old Master and British Paintings Day Sale auction, the work Portrait Of George Arbuthnot Of Elderslie (1772-1843) sold for GBP 30,000.00 (€ 34,429.49) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Beechey achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Dashwood Children in January 2014 with an auction result of USD 821,000.00 (€ 608,148.15).
