Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth, 1St Baronet (1748 - 1817), Three-Quarter Length, In Naval Uniform, Wearing The Breast Star And Sash Of The Order Of Bath by William Beechey was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 12,500.0 Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Beechey achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Dashwood Children in January 2014 with an auction result of USD 821,000.00 (€ 608,148.15).
