The work An elegant lady, seated, playing a cittern, looking upwards by Nathaniel Dance-Holland was sold in the Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours auction at Christies in London in July 2011. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,193.78), 33% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nathaniel Dance-Holland achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Thomas Assheton-Smith (1752-1828), full-length, in a red jacket in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 400,000.00 (€ 469,082.94).
