This artwork by Joshua Reynolds achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in January last year. In the Royal & Noble auction, the work Portrait of Sir William Lowther, half-length, wearing a brown coat and white cravat sold for GBP 9,450.00 (€ 11,327.02) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joshua Reynolds achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Lady Frances Marsham, later Countess of Romney (1755-1795), full-length, in a yellow dress and pink shawl, in a park landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,786,500.00 (€ 6,037,281.44).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 89 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Joshua Reynolds erzielte im Januar letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Royal & Noble wurde die Arbeit Portrait of Sir William Lowther, half-length, wearing a brown coat and white cravat für GBP 9.450,00 (€ 11.327,02) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 5.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joshua Reynolds erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Lady Frances Marsham, later Countess of Romney (1755-1795), full-length, in a yellow dress and pink shawl, in a park landscape im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.786.500,00 (€ 6.037.281,44).
