Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of A Woman, Said To Be Mrs. Barnard by Joshua Reynolds was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 30,000.00 – 40,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 23,940.00 (€ 20,554.65). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joshua Reynolds achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Lady Frances Marsham, later Countess of Romney (1755-1795), full-length, in a yellow dress and pink shawl, in a park landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,786,500.00 (€ 6,037,281.44).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait Of A Woman, Said To Be Mrs. Barnard von Joshua Reynolds im Oktober 2020 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 30.000,00 – 40.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 23.940,00 (€ 20.554,65) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joshua Reynolds erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Lady Frances Marsham, later Countess of Romney (1755-1795), full-length, in a yellow dress and pink shawl, in a park landscape im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.786.500,00 (€ 6.037.281,44).
