Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2019 Christies in London held the auction Old Master Paintings and Sculpture, which included the work Portrait of Emilia Vansittart (1778-1791), half-length, in a pink and white dress, holding a dog, in a painted oval by Joshua Reynolds. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 26,592.37) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joshua Reynolds achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Lady Frances Marsham, later Countess of Romney (1755-1795), full-length, in a yellow dress and pink shawl, in a park landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,786,500.00 (€ 6,037,281.44).
