This artwork by Joshua Reynolds achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in February 2020. In the Old Masters Online auction, the work Portrait Of A Lady, Probably Miss Jane Ashton, Half Length, In A Blue Dress With White Lace Cuffs sold for USD 62,500.00 (€ 56,689.34) - well above the upper estimate of USD 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joshua Reynolds achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Lady Frances Marsham, later Countess of Romney (1755-1795), full-length, in a yellow dress and pink shawl, in a park landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,786,500.00 (€ 6,037,281.44).
