In December 2019 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters Day Sale, which included the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Said To Be General Conway by Joshua Reynolds. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,773.54), 56% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joshua Reynolds achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Lady Frances Marsham, later Countess of Romney (1755-1795), full-length, in a yellow dress and pink shawl, in a park landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,786,500.00 (€ 6,037,281.44).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 56 % übertroffen
Im Dezember 2019 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Masters Day Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait Of A Gentleman, Said To Be General Conway von Joshua Reynolds zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 12.500,00 (€ 14.773,54) und damit 56% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joshua Reynolds erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Lady Frances Marsham, later Countess of Romney (1755-1795), full-length, in a yellow dress and pink shawl, in a park landscape im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.786.500,00 (€ 6.037.281,44).
