Artwork auctioned at 21 times the upper estimate price

When the work Hope Eternal by Frank Bowling was auctioned at Bonhams in Hauser & Wirth in September last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 300.00 but the actual price achieved was more than 21 times as high at GBP 6,500.00 (€ 7,397.63). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Frank Bowling achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Beggar No. 3 in June 2019 with an auction result of GBP 695,250.00 (€ 781,564.11).

Kunstwerk zum 21-fachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert

Als die Arbeit Hope Eternal von Frank Bowling im September letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in Hauser & Wirth versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 300,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 6.500,00 (€ 7.397,63) mehr als 21-mal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Frank Bowling erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Beggar No. 3 im Juni 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 695.250,00 (€ 781.564,11).
