Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Shipping on the Thames at Rotherhithe by Samuel Scott was sold in the Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in May 2012. The price achieved of GBP 121,250.00 (€ 151,072.17) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Samuel Scott - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shipping At Anchor In The Thames Estuary, Near Wapping, which sold at auction in July 2016 for GBP 473,000.00 (€ 562,026.33).
