Auction result well in line with expectations
In October last year Phillips in London held the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale, which included the work Red Freight by Salvatore Scarpitta. The price achieved of GBP 1,111,500.00 (€ 1,294,885.19) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 900,000.00 – 1,200,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Salvatore Scarpitta - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Housing Developed, which sold at auction in October 2019 for GBP 2,535,000.00 (€ 2,940,418.20).
