Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work D-Day Landing on Omaha Beach, Normandy by Robert Capa was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,268.00 (€ 1,854.46). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Capa achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Death of a Loyalist Soldier in April 2018 with an auction result of USD 162,500.00 (€ 134,586.72).
