This artwork by Richard Crosse achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2008. In the Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes auction, the work Catherine Osbaldeston, née Pennington (d. 22 December 1824), in lilac robe à l'anglaise with white linen stomacher and scarf, powdered and padded upswept hair sold for GBP 2,750.00 (€ 2,888.30) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Crosse achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of John Crosse (1721-1776), The Artist'S Father, Circa 1770 in December 2019 with an auction result of GBP 52,500.00 (€ 62,048.86).
