Auction result misses estimated price range
In October 2008 a collector was able to acquire the work French View Of The South Of The Necropolis In Cairo With The Citadel In The Background by Prosper Marilhat for USD 56,250.00 (€ 44,354.20). This price was achieved in the auction 19th Century European Art including The Orientalist Sale at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 70,000.00 – 90,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Prosper Marilhat - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Travellers at an Oasis, which sold at auction in June 2003 for GBP 83,650.00 (€ 120,209.60).
