Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Recto: Studies of Hercules for The Choice of Hercules Verso: Drapery studies by Pompeo Batoni was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,772.00 (€ 3,310.26). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pompeo Batoni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Susanna And The Elders in February 2013 with an auction result of USD 11,394,500.00 (€ 8,712,057.50).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Recto: Studies of Hercules for The Choice of Hercules Verso: Drapery studies von Pompeo Batoni im Juli letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 2.772,00 (€ 3.310,26) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Pompeo Batoni erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Susanna And The Elders im Februar 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 11.394.500,00 (€ 8.712.057,50).
