In July this year Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Part I, which included the work Portrait of Sir Henry Mainwaring (1726-1797), half-length, in a green coat and red waistcoat, holding a tricorne in his left hand by Pompeo Batoni. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 182,700.00 (€ 213,155.53), 52% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pompeo Batoni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Susanna And The Elders in February 2013 with an auction result of USD 11,394,500.00 (€ 8,712,057.50).

Im Juli diesen Jahres führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Masters Part I durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Sir Henry Mainwaring (1726-1797), half-length, in a green coat and red waistcoat, holding a tricorne in his left hand von Pompeo Batoni zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 182.700,00 (€ 213.155,53) und damit 52% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Pompeo Batoni erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Susanna And The Elders im Februar 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 11.394.500,00 (€ 8.712.057,50).
