Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a gentleman, bust-length, in a plum coloured jacket and pink waistcoat by Pompeo Batoni was sold in the Old Master Paintings & Sculpture Online auction at Christies in London in December 2020. The price achieved of GBP 56,250.00 (€ 62,836.26) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pompeo Batoni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Susanna And The Elders in February 2013 with an auction result of USD 11,394,500.00 (€ 8,712,057.50).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 56.250,00 (€ 62.836,26) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 50.000,00 – 70.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Pompeo Batoni erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Susanna And The Elders im Februar 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 11.394.500,00 (€ 8.712.057,50).
