The »bidding war« ended at USD 182,000.00 (€ 195,111.49), 30% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Philippe de Champaigne - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Holy Family with a Sparrow, which sold at auction in June 2012 for USD 578,500.00 (€ 456,662.46).

Die Arbeit Saint Jerome in the Wilderness von Philippe de Champaigne wurde im Mai 2000 in der Auktion Old Master Paintings from the Lagerfeld Collection bei Christies in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 182.000,00 (€ 195.111,49) und damit 30% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Philippe de Champaigne mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Holy Family with a Sparrow beobachtet, die im Juni 2012 für USD 578.500,00 (€ 456.662,46) versteigert wurde.
