Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Philippe Mercier could be acquired at Sothebys in London in December 2012 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale auction, the work School For Girls changed hands for GBP 34,850.00 (€ 42,979.73) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Admittedly, works by Philippe Mercier have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Allegories Of The Five Senses: Hearing, Smell, Sight, Taste And Touch in January 2010 with an auction result of USD 386,500.00 (€ 278,658.98).
