Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2011 Christies in London held the auction Christie's Interiors Including Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours From The Collection of The Late John Appleby, which included the work A folio of forty-seven sketches and one lithograph of views of Jersey and the Continent including Elizabeth Castle; Victoria works; St Ouens' Bay; Laying of the foundation stone of Victora Harbour; St John's Church; Grouville Church; Panorama of Eliz by Philip John Ouless. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,125.00 (€ 2,404.43) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Philip John Ouless achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work View taken from under South Hill, St Helier, Jersey in November 2010 with an auction result of GBP 57,650.00 (€ 68,891.66).
