Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Gentleman, In Gold-Studded Armour And Lace Ruff; Red Curtain Background by Peter Oliver was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 7,500.00 (€ 9,025.25). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Peter Oliver - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Lady Anne Clifford, Later Countess Of Pembroke (1590-1676), Circa 1620, which sold at auction in December 2018 for GBP 22,500.00 (€ 25,067.00).
