This artwork by Peter Oliver achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2019. In the The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures, Part III auction, the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Tradtionally Identified As Robert Devereux, 3Rd Earl Of Essex, Circa 1620 sold for GBP 5,625.00 (€ 6,648.09) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Peter Oliver - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Lady Anne Clifford, Later Countess Of Pembroke (1590-1676), Circa 1620, which sold at auction in December 2018 for GBP 22,500.00 (€ 25,067.00).
