This price was achieved in the auction The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Paul Jacob Naftel; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The landing place at Havre Gosselin, Sark sold at auction in November 2010 with the realized price of GBP 9,375.00 (€ 11,203.11).
