This artwork by On Kawara achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May this year. In the A Century of Art: The Gerald Fineberg Collection Part II auction, the work JAN. 19, 1982, from Today, 1966-2013 sold for USD 756,000.00 (€ 709,592.64) - well above the upper estimate of USD 350,000.00. Admittedly, works by On Kawara have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Untitled (Decade) in May 2017 with an auction result of USD 4,175,000.00 (€ 3,715,735.14).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von On Kawara erzielte im Mai diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion A Century of Art: The Gerald Fineberg Collection Part II wurde die Arbeit JAN. 19, 1982, from Today, 1966-2013 für USD 756.000,00 (€ 709.592,64) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 350.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von On Kawara auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Untitled (Decade) im Mai 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 4.175.000,00 (€ 3.715.735,14).
