Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A third-rate ship of the line, thought to be the HMS Cornwallis, at anchor by Nicholas Matthew Condy was sold in the The Marine Sale auction at Bonhams in April this year. The price achieved of GBP 956.25 (€ 1,089.81) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nicholas Matthew Condy achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Fernande, R.W.Y.C. winning the Queen's Vase, Plymouth, August 26th, 1849; and A schooner yacht at anchor off Mount Edgcumbe, Plymouth in November 2003 with an auction result of GBP 41,125.00 (€ 59,035.55).
