In May 2018 Christies in Hong Kong held the auction Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art (Evening Sale) / Contemporaries: Voices from East and West (Evening Sale), which included the work La Marchande de Ôc (The Snail Seller) by Nguyen Phan Chanh. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 4,660,000.00 (€ 509,125.96), 23% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Nguyen Phan Chanh - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Les Couturières (Seamstresses at Work), which sold at auction in December 2020 for HKD 10,930,000.00 (€ 1,152,878.17).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
