Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work Enfant à l'oiseau (Child with Bird) by Nguyen Phan Chanh was worth HKD 6,700,000.00 (€ 732,005.14) to a buyer in May 2018. This price was achieved in the auction Asian 20th Century Art (Day Sale) at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 1,600,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Nguyen Phan Chanh; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Les Couturières (Seamstresses at Work) sold at auction in December 2020 with the realized price of HKD 10,930,000.00 (€ 1,152,878.17).
