Auction result well in line with expectations

In November 2005 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH PICTURES 1500-1850, which included the work Portrait of George Hardinge, Attorney General, M.P., (1743-1816), Half-Length, In A Black Coat, Holding A Book In His Right Hand by Nathaniel Dance-Holland. The price achieved of GBP 10,200.00 (€ 14,985.09) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nathaniel Dance-Holland achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Thomas Assheton-Smith (1752-1828), full-length, in a red jacket in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 400,000.00 (€ 469,082.94).
