Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
The work Hungarian Woodland Interior by Mihály Munkácsy was worth USD 445,000.00 (€ 285,842.75) to a buyer in April 2008. This price was achieved in the auction 19th Century European Art including The Orientalist Sale at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 80,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Mihály Munkácsy; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Two Families sold at auction in October 2003 with the realized price of USD 662,700.00 (€ 570,850.20).
