Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Still Life With Blue And White Grapes, Chestnuts, A Loaf Of Bread, Peaches And A Knife On A Pewter Plate, With A Peeled Lemon In A Roemer, All Arranged On A Partly Draped Table by Michiel Simons was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Sothebys in Amsterdam in November 2008. The price achieved of EUR 36,750.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 30,000.00 – 40,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Michiel Simons - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Tulips, carnations and other flowers in a vase, grapes and peaches in a porcelain bowl, with glasses of wine, a peeled lemon on a dish and other fruit on a partially draped stone ledge, which sold at auction in January 2001 for USD 116,000.00 (€ 124,623.98).
