Despite a disappointment, a good price for Michiel Simons
In January 2001 a collector was able to acquire the work Tulips, carnations and other flowers in a vase, grapes and peaches in a porcelain bowl, with glasses of wine, a peeled lemon on a dish and other fruit on a partially draped stone ledge by Michiel Simons for USD 116,000.00 (€ 124,623.98). This price was achieved in the auction Important Old Master Paintings at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 150,000.00 – 200,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, Tulips, carnations and other flowers in a vase, grapes and peaches in a porcelain bowl, with glasses of wine, a peeled lemon on a dish and other fruit on a partially draped stone ledge is the most expensive artwork by Michiel Simons that we have observed at auction so far.
