In May 2008 Christies in London held the auction Maritime, which included the work The sun burning through the mist as Britannia leads the pack off the Needles by Michael James Whitehand. The result of GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,816.13) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by Michael James Whitehand have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Ailsa and Britannia racing at the Royal Clyde Yacht Club Regatta in July 2004 with an auction result of USD 19,120.00 (€ 15,890.96).

Im Mai 2008 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime durch, in der auch die Arbeit The sun burning through the mist as Britannia leads the pack off the Needles von Michael James Whitehand zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 3.000,00 (€ 3.816,13) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Michael James Whitehand auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Ailsa and Britannia racing at the Royal Clyde Yacht Club Regatta im Juli 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 19.120,00 (€ 15.890,96).
