Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2008 Christies in London held the auction Maritime, which included the work Britannia leading the fleet to windward by Michael James Whitehand. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,125.00 (€ 3,975.14) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Michael James Whitehand - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Ailsa and Britannia racing at the Royal Clyde Yacht Club Regatta, which sold at auction in July 2004 for USD 19,120.00 (€ 15,890.96).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Mai 2008 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime durch, in der auch die Arbeit Britannia leading the fleet to windward von Michael James Whitehand zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 3.125,00 (€ 3.975,14) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Michael James Whitehand mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Ailsa and Britannia racing at the Royal Clyde Yacht Club Regatta beobachtet, die im Juli 2004 für USD 19.120,00 (€ 15.890,96) versteigert wurde.
