Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2008 Christies in New York held the auction Maritime Art Including Fine Paintings, Nautical Antiques, Scrimshaw And Ship Models, which included the work Cutty Sark and Ariel racing home by Michael James Whitehand. The price achieved of USD 8,750.00 (€ 5,895.83) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 8,000.00 – 10,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Michael James Whitehand - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Ailsa and Britannia racing at the Royal Clyde Yacht Club Regatta, which sold at auction in July 2004 for USD 19,120.00 (€ 15,890.96).
