Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Michael James Whitehand could be acquired at Christies in New York in December 2008 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime Art auction, the work The Chariot of Fame crossing the Atlantic from Liverpool to Boston changed hands for USD 7,500.00 (€ 5,388.32) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Michael James Whitehand - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Ailsa and Britannia racing at the Royal Clyde Yacht Club Regatta, which sold at auction in July 2004 for USD 19,120.00 (€ 15,890.96).
