Auction result misses estimated price range
In May 2007 a collector was able to acquire the work Ailsa, Velsheda, Britannia, White Heather and Shamrock at the turning mark by Michael James Whitehand for GBP 2,400.00 (€ 3,531.76). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures) at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Michael James Whitehand have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Ailsa and Britannia racing at the Royal Clyde Yacht Club Regatta in July 2004 with an auction result of USD 19,120.00 (€ 15,890.96).
