Executed in 1997, this work was originally part of an installation composed of 500 masks, which the artist divided into six separate works, each consisting of a different number of masks ranging in the following configurations: 1,5,25,50,150 and 250.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Spermini by Maurizio Cattelan was sold in the 20th Century to Now auction at Phillips in London in June this year. The price achieved of GBP 342,900.00 (€ 399,076.57) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 300,000.00 – 400,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Maurizio Cattelan achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Him in May 2016 with an auction result of USD 17,189,000.00 (€ 15,436,910.64).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Spermini von Maurizio Cattelan wurde im Juni diesen Jahres in der Auktion 20th Century to Now bei Phillips in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 342.900,00 (€ 399.076,57) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 300.000,00 – 400.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Maurizio Cattelan erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Him im Mai 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 17.189.000,00 (€ 15.436.910,64).
