Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Black Cart by Martin Puryear was auctioned at Christies in New York in March last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 3,200.00 (€ 2,884.70). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Martin Puryear achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work without title in May 2014 with an auction result of USD 1,805,000.00 (€ 1,323,313.78).
