Auction result well in line with expectations
In April 2021 Phillips in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work Montaigne Series by Lothar Baumgarten. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 8,190.00 (€ 6,807.98) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Lothar Baumgarten - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Selected Images, 1968-1972, which sold at auction in April 2006 for USD 26,400.00 (€ 20,912.55).
