Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Vuvuzela by Kwesi Botchway was auctioned at Christies in Hong Kong in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of HKD 200,000.00 – 400,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for HKD 176,400.00 (€ 20,942.47). Admittedly, works by Kwesi Botchway have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Green Sofa in November 2021 with an auction result of USD 214,200.00 (€ 189,775.85).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Vuvuzela von Kwesi Botchway im Mai letzten Jahres bei Christies in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von HKD 200.000,00 – 400.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für HKD 176.400,00 (€ 20.942,47) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Kwesi Botchway auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Green Sofa im November 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 214.200,00 (€ 189.775,85).
