Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work 'Rural Scene in southern Yamashiro' (A Scenic Village View of Minamiyamashiro) by Kiichi Asano was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in April last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,134.00 (€ 1,076.21). Admittedly, works by Kiichi Asano have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 'A Rainy Commencement Ceremony', 1953; And Untitled (From The Series The Gion Quarter), 1956 in May 2019 with an auction result of GBP 6,250.00 (€ 7,074.63).
