JOSEPH CORNELL (1903-1972) Prints for Phoenix House: three prints a screenprint in colors with varnish stencil, and two photogravures, on Rives BFK paper, 1972, two stamp-signed, each variously numbered and annotated (the edition was 125, plus eight artist's proofs), published by Brooke Alexander Editions, New York, 1975, each with full margins Largest Sheet: 19 1 ⁄ 2 x 15 1 ⁄ 2 in. (495 x 394 mm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Joseph Cornell could be acquired at Christies in New York in April this year for an unexpectedly low price. In the The Sale of the Century: An Important Corporate Collection of Prints and Multiples: Online auction, the work Prints for Phoenix House: three prints changed hands for USD 2,142.00 (€ 1,940.22) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Cornell achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Medici Slot Machine in May 2014 with an auction result of USD 7,781,000.00 (€ 5,704,545.45).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von Joseph Cornell konnte im April diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion The Sale of the Century: An Important Corporate Collection of Prints and Multiples: Online wechselte die Arbeit Prints for Phoenix House: three prints für USD 2.142,00 (€ 1.940,22) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 5.000,00 – 7.500,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Joseph Cornell erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Medici Slot Machine im Mai 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 7.781.000,00 (€ 5.704.545,45).
