Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Earl of Cork and Orrery's horse, Nobby, held by his groom, stables adorned with the family coat-of-arms beyond by John Wootton was sold in the Old Masters Part I auction at Christies in London in July this year. The price achieved of GBP 252,000.00 (€ 294,007.62) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Wootton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Hunting Party; Possibly Depicting Charles Spencer, 3Rd Duke Of Marlborough (1706-1758) And His Wife Elizabeth, Countess Of Marlborough (D.1761), which sold at auction in July 2012 for GBP 577,250.00 (€ 735,261.35).
