Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2019 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Day Sale, which included the work A chestnut mare, traditionally identified as Mr. Charles Pelham's Brocklesby Betty , led by a jockey at Newmarket by John Wootton. The price achieved of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 19,213.84) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Wootton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Hunting Party; Possibly Depicting Charles Spencer, 3Rd Duke Of Marlborough (1706-1758) And His Wife Elizabeth, Countess Of Marlborough (D.1761) in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 577,250.00 (€ 735,261.35).
