A top price for John Wootton - as previously expected
In July 2012 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale, which included the work A Hunting Party; Possibly Depicting Charles Spencer, 3Rd Duke Of Marlborough (1706-1758) And His Wife Elizabeth, Countess Of Marlborough (D.1761) by John Wootton. The price achieved of GBP 577,250.00 (€ 735,261.35) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 500,000.00 – 700,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, A Hunting Party; Possibly Depicting Charles Spencer, 3Rd Duke Of Marlborough (1706-1758) And His Wife Elizabeth, Countess Of Marlborough (D.1761) is the most expensive artwork by John Wootton that we have observed at auctions so far.
