Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of The Duke Of Hamilton’S Hound "Jewell" by John Wootton was sold in the Master Paintings & Sculpture Day Sale auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 43,750.00 (€ 40,531.78) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Wootton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Hunting Party; Possibly Depicting Charles Spencer, 3Rd Duke Of Marlborough (1706-1758) And His Wife Elizabeth, Countess Of Marlborough (D.1761) in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 577,250.00 (€ 735,261.35).
