The »bidding war« ended at GBP 68,750.00 (€ 76,593.60), 38% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by John Wootton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Hunting Party; Possibly Depicting Charles Spencer, 3Rd Duke Of Marlborough (1706-1758) And His Wife Elizabeth, Countess Of Marlborough (D.1761) in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 577,250.00 (€ 735,261.35).
