In October 2014 Christies in London held the auction Old Master and British Paintings, which included the work An Italianate river landscape with figures conversing before classical ruins by John Wootton. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 23,750.00 (€ 30,325.32), 32% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Wootton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Hunting Party; Possibly Depicting Charles Spencer, 3Rd Duke Of Marlborough (1706-1758) And His Wife Elizabeth, Countess Of Marlborough (D.1761) in July 2012 with an auction result of GBP 577,250.00 (€ 735,261.35).
