Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work View of the Piazza from Florian's (i); Florian's interior looking across St Mark's Square (ii); Figures seated at a table outside Florian's (iii) by John Stanton Ward was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2018, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,200.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 4,375.00 (€ 4,934.87). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Stanton Ward - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Annabel's, Study for The Founder Members, which sold at auction in November 2018 for GBP 13,125.00 (€ 14,804.60).
