Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Ruskin could be acquired at Christies in New York in February 2024 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master & British Drawings auction, the work The shoreline and Irish Sea: view westward from Ruskin’s rooming house at Seascale changed hands for USD 2,016.00 (€ 1,761.93) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Ruskin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bellinzona, Switzerland, looking north towards the St. Gotthard pass in November 2003 with an auction result of GBP 274,050.00 (€ 393,402.83).
